DEMYSTIFYING THE SLUT

What does being a slut entail? Is it being a person who sleeps around with more than one person? Is it a person who has one night stands? Is it a person who has had many sexual partners?

For one I know that when it comes to gender many people believe that the female version of a slut is more prevalent. The more or less derogatory term fits in more with the description of a woman's, rather than a man's, promiscuous lifestyle. For a man, being promiscuous is more of a sign of his virility. But I digress, a slut, be they male or female, is not a person who enjoys sex more than the normal societal expectations. What is normal anyway? That is a story for another day, but a person who has sexual relation with a large number of people minus the emotional investment that usually comes along with the intimacy required of relationships.

So there, a slut is not a man or a woman who enjoys sexual encounters, or a person who sleeps with someone on the first night together. A slut is someone who not once or twice but on countless instances does not give emotional value to the sex they are having with other people. Sex to them is a physical act, a need being satisfied, a primal urge being quenched, an itch being scratched, with different people in many instances. I in my short life experience have come across many such persons. I believe reader, you have too.

The preceding thoughts are my opinion of what a slut is. You may choose to disagree. But a slut to me is more than the person involved in the sexual act but is a person who does not respect and honour the spiritual and emotional consequences of that sexual act on themselves or on other beings.

Maybe that is why the word itself sounds degrading. It is something associated with shame. I sure do not think nympho or Casanova have such negative connotations, do you?
